nadine's corner

Welcome to my little corner of the universe! Here you'll (soon) find my music transcriptions, some bits about what I'm doing or thinking about right now, and ???. I love music, fashion, art, programming, physics, and journaling.

About me

I grew up in the 2000s and I used to play around a bit by making websites in freewebs.com, learning HTML and CSS along the way. My first website was a Miley Cyrus fansite (mileyrox200). Then I had a Twilight fansite, then a Twilight hatesite (lol) and then a couple more that my memory is holding hostage. I'm now all grown up (late 20s) and working as a software developer, but none of my websites have survived :( I made this in May 2025 to reclaim my little corner of the internet again.

I really miss the anonymity and wild wild west feeling of the internet pre-Facebook. I find myself feeling nostalgic for retro web designs and Myspace profiles with noisy backgrounds, mp3 players, cool cursors, unhinged content, and gifs everywhere. I made this little corner to reflect that spirit, and maybe find a community in that.

Logs

2025.06.04, wednesday

I'm so tired, my brain is tired, my body is tired, my eyes are tired. I've been sitting all day so how is this possible? And I'm super thirsty.

Music: Learning Billie Jean (MJ) and Footsteps in the Dark (Isley Brothers) on bass. I just realized I haven't picked up my bass or any of my instruments in days.

etc.: Put all of my Neocities files in a GitHub repo, then I used the Deploy to Neocities action to deploy my changes. So I'm typing this from VSCode! ヽ(*∀* )ノ

2025.06.01, sunday

I have to relearn HTML and CSS, mostly CSS. I haven't worked with them in so long. This past week has been all about reclaiming my past hobbies (cooking, running, sewing, website-making). I've succeeded in only half of those fronts, but there's always next week.

Reading: Mrs. Dalloway, Virginia Woolf -- "What a lark! What a plunge!" Whenever I think of bright spring mornings full of hope for the rest of the day, I think of this book, for some reason. I think of the lark, but not the plunge.

She exists in the same space in my head as Clarice Lispector. Whenever I think of May, which just passed, I think of "May, the month of bridal veils floating in white." My Mays have never been about life upheavals--I think I always just float on. This past May had been no different, except for my rent going up.

My hope for the next week: I get through the stupid sprint retros and whatever meetings at work, I finish learning Rush (The Seatbelts) on bass, I finish my first song, I start working with oil pastels again.

I think it's MS Paint that really saw my creative beginnings, now that I think about it.

2025.05.31, saturday

Created this neocities :) Looking up fonts and tiled backgrounds and gifs and banners and such. Also started using the sewing machine I just bought. Picking up sewing again so I can tailor my clothes. Today I shortened the hems on my Fontaines DC shirts while listening to their records. I haven't eaten a proper meal yet and it's almost 9pm!

Learning about: a brief history and philosophy of Issey Miyake's Pleats Please, from Ken Sakata of the brand Front Office
